Congratulations on the story acceptance, Jackie. The Kirkcaldy fair reminds me of the Hoppings that comes to the Town Moor in Newcastle every June. That smell of onions, burgers and candy floss is unmistakable and brings back memories.
Thanks, Lesley. Yes, the "fair" aroma is a whole vibe, isn't it?! There are lots of little fairs all over Scotland in the summer months, but the Kirkcaldy mile-long one marks the beginning of the fair season where all the traveller families get together in one big "market" (fair) before scattering to other places. It's fascinating. We have a Showmens Guild contact in town too. It was a "right of passage" when you reached the age that your parents trusted you to go "to the market" on your own!!
Congratulations Jackie, wonderful news. I look forward to reading this story and the sensory journey this little post took me on, has made me want to visit Scotland more than ever now.
Thanks, Nicola. I'm so very pleased about this one (more news soon!). All parts of Scotland are lovely but this week in town is quite noisy lol! Honestly, if the wind blows the right way, I can hear the music and vibration of the fair when I walk my dog in the local park just around the bay! I forgot to mention sticky toffee apples on wooden sticks - my mother-in-law used to make those for the children at this time of year!
Ah Vicky, you and me both re the meet cute! I'm always surprised when people haven't heard of the Links Market - it's been going for hundreds of years (yes, hundreds, lol) - though I doubt they had the big wheel back then! My Editor at PF remembers going to the Links Market in his youth!! I think everyone on the East Coast ventured to "the market" at some point as a teen!
Haha! I'm sure you've got plenty of interesting things on the go in that area! I remember once arranging to meet someone at the Peoples Palace and it being closed for renovation - what a disappointment! I must get back sometime!

How atmospheric. I hope Monty doesn’t get to hyped on the sounds and smells too.
Can't wait to read this story - I love a meet cute!!! Plus, I wasn't aware of the Kirkcaldy Links Market, so have learnt something this afternoon.

I probably need to get out of the Greater Glasgow area more often.
