Loved this, it felt like I was being read a story. Yes, the smell of books just pleases me no end. I rememember at my primary school we use to have a weekly book club where I'd collect enough stamps to exchange for a book. On the way home I would open and the smell of the book which added to my excitement.
Thank you for taking us along, while you visited these one-of-a-kind used book stores. Now I long to visit these special reading nooks. I also recall needing a long hooked pole to open the huge windows in grade school; and I recall the blissful scent of sheets of paper that came out of the mimeograph machine in school—the precursor to copy machines. Gracias. 🌸
Gosh you really to me back to my school years with your description. My school was an old Victorian building in the west end of Glasgow with a lovely library. You took me back to remembering how I would pick out a book and read through the names and years of people who had signed it out before me. These books went back to when my mum was at the same school and beyond. I can remember the smell of the books, school and library well. Happy memories. Although, like you, maths was not my favourite. Give me English any day 📚
Ah, it's the feel and smell of books that make them so perfectly irresistible! I also like to find bits and bobs tucked inside books by their previous owners: a rail ticket, perhaps, or a feather, a shopping list, a photo, a business card for a restaurant, a pressed flower...
