Since I’m from the US, I’d never heard of The People’s Friend, but I just looked up the magazine. It looks fabulous! There is a lack of magazines in the US that focus on heartwarming stories—we have mystery and sci-fi and literary publications, but for family or romance stories, not so much. I’m living in Guam now. I’m going to see if I can get a subscription.
Guam is beautiful. My husband took a job here…so we are having quite an adventure. I’m thinking of writing a series of novellas about a writer who moves to Guam as a way of sharing my experiences (but also more exciting than my personal life which is basically reading and writing, haha.)
Shelley, They are fab! I believe they are the biggest circulation/seller of women’s short stories in the UK - in fact, maybe just the biggest amount of short stories in a magazine full stop! They also include historical and cozy crime. I’m glad I found them! 😁Good luck re the subscription. I know there’s a digital subscription and I know Pocket Novels are available that way too!
Thanking you again Jess for your reply! You prompted me to write some affirmations for myself as I'm a little stuck right now - and I wrote it all into a new Newsletter/Post. Thanks for giving me the push!xx
Thanks, Jess. I have a few in my head - your Note has made me wonder if it might be helpful to put them out there! I'll have a think how best to do it! PS I just basically give myself a good talking to and talk to myself like my best encouraging friend in the whole world might do! x x
I love that! I frequently write little letters to myself when I'm giving myself a hard time about something, talking to myself like I'm my best friend, it's such a helpful practice xx
Don't forget to add some chocolate to those celebrations, Jackie!
I know for a fact that my local Sainsury's stocks PF Pocket Novels, so hopefully I'll find a copy waiting for me there. Still looking for the summer bookazine out in the wild though...
Good point, Vicky - chocolates will be added! Thanks for your support - hopefully the Bookazine will come back into stock in your Sainsbury as it is restocked for quite a period of time. I'm so excited to see the Pocket Novel tomorrow! x
Congratulations Jackie, I’ll keep my eyes open for your Pocket Novel ☺️
Thanks, Lesley! I’ve spotted it so far in Morrisons, Sainsbury and Tesco! 😊
Congratulations on your publication!
Thanks, Shelley! 😊

Also, must say…Guam, how cool!
Also, Scotland is a place I’ve always wanted to visit. I went to a Scottish festival once in Maine, and it was so much fun.

Yes, I might get the digital subscription as it will probably be easier (even though I much prefer print.)
I know the printed one goes to subscribers in Australia and New Zealand but they’re usually quite behind with the issues.
Congratulations. Getting a book out there is such a huge achievement. 🎉🍾
Thank you Lisa! Yes, I need to do a little celebrating...and then I need to remind myself I can do it again!
Congratulations, that's fantastic! Also, I love your acceptance mantra. Do you have any other mantras for different stages of the writing process?
